Average mortgage loan size increased to 106,000 euros

According to the Statistics Center, the average mortgage loan for a Finnish family in 2020 was 106,000 euros. This is 3.5% more than in 2019.

The largest mortgage loans – 157,000 euros – were from residents of the capital region. Over the year, this figure increased by 5.5%.

Overall, less than a third of all 1.5 million households in Finland have a mortgage. 70% of families with children buy housing on a mortgage.

Overall, in the past year, more than half of Finnish households had some kind of debt. The total amount of debt amounted to about 132 billion euros, which is 3.4% more than in the previous year.
