Bare-chested activists kicked out of a public sauna – “Women’s nipples are not genitals!”

The guards forced four women from an activist group called Cult Cunth to leave the Rauhaniemi recreation center because they were swimming topless. According to the pool director, clients must adhere to the standards of decency.
An incident occurred last weekend at the Rauhaniemi Swimming Center in Tampere, during which four women topless were taken out of the pool by security guards. Women are members of the Cult Cunth feminist group, which aims, among other things, to promote equality and normalize attitudes towards the female breast. According to activists, if people regularly see naked female breasts of various shapes and sizes, it helps to develop a neutral attitude towards them.
According to one of the activists of Mary-Maya Nyayukka, the women managed to stay in the pool for about 20 minutes, after which the lifeguard asked them to leave. According to the rescuer, their appearance angered some of the visitors.
– His argument was that people over 6 years old should use swimwear. We didn’t leave because we were wearing bathing suits. The rules do not say exactly how the swimsuit should look. Our genital area was covered. The nipples are not genitals.
After that, the sauna employee again asked the women to leave the premises, arguing that the swimming center has the right to choose its customers. The employee also recalled that children were present at the scene.
– The children were not disturbed by the fact that we were swimming topless. At the same time, other clients of the swimming center set a bad example for them, commenting out loud our appearance.
The activists tried to call the director of the swimming center by phone, but to no avail. They emailed him over the weekend, but they haven’t received a response yet.
– We do not want a conflict with the swimming center, our goal is to promote equality through dialogue, the activists said.
There is no need to change the rules, the leadership of the swimming center believes
Director of the swimming center Juho Allonen states that it is necessary to adhere to the norms of public morality and general rules of conduct in the pool.
– For women, this means covered breasts. Since the activists were topless, they were asked to leave the pool.
According to Allonen, there is no need to change the rules for visiting a public swimming center.
– We do not undertake to specify what kind of swimwear should be, but it is worth remember that he must comply with the Finnish standards of decency.
