British doctors spoke about a new strain of coronavirus

The British Public Health Service (PHE) has revealed the spread of a new mutation of coronavirus B.1.621 in the country, reports department.

According to him, in the UK confirmed 16 cases of infection with this strain of SARS-CoV -2, most of them are associated with travel abroad.

Currently, experts have no data that a new variant of the virus causes a more serious illness or reduces the effectiveness of the vaccines used. Doctors are conducting laboratory tests to understand how the mutation affected the behavior of the virus.

According to the World Health Organization, the first reported case of SARS-CoV-2 B.1.621 strain occurred in Colombia in January. Since then, Forbes writes with reference to the international platform GISAID, which provides open access to the genomic data of influenza and coronavirus viruses, it has been identified in 26 countries. The increase occurred in June and July, with nearly half of reported cases in the United States.
