Funding for new research will be reduced by about 50 million

Financial support for new research next year will be 51 million euros less than this year. This is evidenced by the budget plans of the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Education and Culture.

This is largely due to the decline in revenues of the gambling company Veikkaus and concerns the funding of research planned after 2022, says Minister of Science and Culture Antti Kurvinen (Center) in an interview with STT news agency.

These are funds allocated by the Academy of Finland, which is one of the main sponsors of scientific activities in the country. Funding is decreasing as the state does not fully compensate the grant recipients for the loss of funds allocated from Veikkaus revenues.

The final decision on funding will be made during the negotiations on the state budget in September.
