Ministry of Defense: plane with Finnish military on board lands in Kabul

The Boeing C-17 Globemaster III, which took off from the Georgian capital Tbilisi in the morning, landed at around 4 pm Finnish time in the Afghan capital. The plane brought Finnish soldiers to Afghanistan, whose task is to help in the evacuation of Finnish citizens and Afghans who collaborated with the Finns.

The message from the Ministry of Defense says that the plane landed safely and the military began to carry out their tasks.

In the morning, two transport aircraft of the Finnish Defense Forces landed in Tbilisi.

President Sauli Niinistö yesterday approved a government decree to send troops to Afghanistan to assist in the evacuation.

Minister of Foreign Affairs Pekka Haavisto (Greens) reported today that a total of more than 50 people have been removed from Afghanistan to date.
