Ministry of Health to regional authorities: restrictive measures do not have to be extended to children and youth
Head of Department Satu Koskela tells Yle that the ministry proceeds from the principle of “children and youth first” in all restrictions.
– Restrictive measures against children and youth should be avoided, says Koskela.
According to the instructions, for example, hobbies of children and youth can be excluded from the scope of restrictions of regional authorities. Thus, even if restrictions on gatherings are imposed in the region, they should not apply to children under the age of 18.
Last week, ministers called the decision of the regional authorities in southern Finland to restrict children’s leisure opportunities too harsh. Regional authorities responded that hobby clubs and sports grounds should not be closed, but close contact between children should be avoided.
Stricter restrictions on gatherings in the metropolitan area will take effect on Friday, August 20.
