After the publication of the last article on the seaside museums of Catalonia, we received a lot of rave reviews. Therefore, we present to your attention 3 more museum spaces where culture, history and the energy of the sea come together.

Museu Arqueològic de Sant Martí d’Empúries

Once in the province of Girona, you can go on a trip to Ancient Rome or Ancient Greece. To do this, it is enough to visit the ruins of Ruinas de Empúries – the ruins of a Greek and Roman city that were the gateway to these civilizations on the Iberian Peninsula. Walking through this archaeological site with the sea in the background, you can travel back in time and enjoy the architecture of the ancient structures. In summer, it also hosts theatrical performances for the whole family in Catalan, Spanish and English.

Fundació Palau Center d’Art

Essayist, poet and writer Josep Palau and Fabre maintained a close friendship with the painter Pablo Picasso. Therefore, the foundation, opened in the town of Caldes d’Estrak on the basis of the writer’s personal collections, is famous for the works of Pablo Picasso, as well as Joan Miró and Pablo Gargallo. In addition to the permanent exhibitions, this cultural center has rooms for temporary exhibitions, and many other events are held throughout the year, such as the Poesia + poetry festival, round tables, conferences and seminars.

Museu Can Mario

This museum is located in Palafrugell and is the home of contemporary sculpture by the Fundación Vila Casas. This building, which used to be a cork factory, now houses more than 200 sculptures by talented sculptors and artists born or living in Catalonia. In addition, in the courtyard of the museum you can visit the permanent open-air exhibition of artists from the Catalan region of Empordà.
