Niinistö also recalled the principles agreed at the 1975 Conference on Security Cooperation in Europe and called on opponents in the “spirit of Helsinki” to show a willingness to engage in dialogue despite differences.

The President expressed cautious optimism that the dialogue between US President Joe Biden and Russian President Vladimir Putin has been resumed.

The purpose of the event, initiated by the Ukrainian side, is to discuss the situation around Crimea at the international political level. The forum was attended by dozens of countries and organizations.

Russia annexed Crimea seven years ago and continues to keep it under its control.
