Pushkov called Germany’s convenient position on Nord Stream 2

With regard to the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline Berlin to The level of rhetoric remains ambivalent: this is a commercial project, but if Moscow starts using it as a political weapon, then measures will be taken in the form of new sanctions. This was stated by the chairman of the Federation Council commission on information policy and interaction with the media, Alexei Pushkov, commenting on the words of German Chancellor Angela Merkel. This is a convenient formula for Berlin, leaving the FRG room for maneuver. With the help of this formula, “you can come to an agreement with Washington, conduct a dialogue with Moscow, calm Kiev, justify your position in the European Union, and even try to calm down the German Greens opposing the gas pipeline,” the senator wrote in his Telegram channel.

At the same time, Pushkov draws attention to the open question of what actions can be regarded as the use of Nord Stream 2 as a political weapon. For example, will Germany consider the suspension of transit as such a weapon if Kiev sets conditions unfavorable for Moscow for a new contract or any gas conflict between Russia and Ukraine? and gives her the opportunity for different interpretations. At the same time, it is obvious that the German economy desperately needs uninterrupted gas supplies from Nord Stream 2, otherwise Berlin would not insist so strongly on the completion and launch of the project.

Earlier it was reported that the seagoing pipe-laying vessel “Fortuna”, involved in the implementation of the Nord Stream-2 gas pipeline, will operate in the waters of the Federal Republic of Germany on a 13-14-kilometer section in the coming days. At the same time, pipe-laying within the framework of the ongoing project will be completed by September 12 this year, RIA Novosti reports with reference to a notice to mariners published by the German authorities.
