Saturday’s downpour involved all rescuers in Helsinki – the basements of houses and retail premises were flooded with water

On Saturday morning, all resources of the metropolitan rescue service were directed to eliminate the consequences of a thunderstorm.

Heavy rainfall caused water to enter the basements of private houses and several commercial premises. Many roads and construction sites were also flooded.

Rescuers pumped out water, including in the Finnkino cinema in Itäkeskus and in the Kallio office building.

In addition, a lightning strike turned off the CHP plants throughout the city for about an hour.
