The court confirms the permission issued by Terrafame for the extraction of uranium

The Supreme Administrative Court has ruled on a uranium mining license for the metallurgical company Terrafame Oy, located in Sotkamo.

According to the decision of the Supreme Administrative Court, uranium mining license issued to Terrafame by the government on 6.2.2020 is now valid. Now Finland can become the only uranium producer in the EU.

The Union for the Conservation of Nature and the Association for the Conservation of Aquatic Ecosystems demanded the cancellation of the permit.

The uranium enrichment plant has existed on the territory of the Terrafame plant for a long time, but the launch requires investments.

– There is a plant, but it needs certain investments. It has never been used and is not yet ready for use, says Terrafame CEO Yoni Lukkaroinen .
