The European Commission has published a new forestry strategy

The European Commission today published a forestry strategy.
The goal of the strategy is to protect Europe’s forests so that they can better absorb carbon and contain climate change.
The Finnish Timber Association said the strategy was controversial. It notes the climatic benefits of using wood, but recommends limiting clear felling.
The Association, however, is pleased that the member countries have the right to decide for themselves which forest management practices work best in each country.
The strategy is a broad set of guiding principles.
