The incidence of incitement to ethnic hatred has tripled

The number of incidents of inciting interethnic hatred has tripled last year compared to the year before last, follows from a fresh report from the Police Academy.
The police received Last year, 105 reports of crimes under the article of the Criminal Code “Incitement of interethnic hatred,” while about 35 were filed the year before last.
At the same time, the number of hate crimes has generally declined. In 2019, there were 899 of them, and in 2018 – 910.
Most hate crimes (650) are motivated by intolerance towards one or another ethnic or national group.
Number of crimes hate motivation towards representatives of religious and ideological groups decreased by 14% compared to 2018.
There have also been fewer crimes related to the victim’s sexual orientation or gender identity.
