According to the Department of Health and Social Development THL, the number of Finnish residents who returned from St. Petersburg who were diagnosed with coronavirus infectioncontinues to grow.Back on Thursday, there were about a hundred of them, on Friday their number exceeded 120.

According to the head of the THL diagnostics department, Mika Salminen , most of these infections occur in football fans who attended Euro 2020.At the same time, the call to be tested urgently applies not only to football fans, but to everyone who has recently visited St. Petersburg and Russia.

THL assumes that tourists are carriers of the delta variant of the coronavirus, formerly known as Indian.Determination of the strain, however, takes about two weeks, so so far there is no exact information on this matter.

Border guards have provided medical authorities with lists of those who have crossed the Russian border recently, and the municipalities are already contacting them.THL recommends to undergo a coronavirus test also for those who have come into contact with people who have returned from St. Petersburg, even if there are no symptoms of the disease.

Most infections among those who came from St. Petersburg were noted in the capital region, but some cases are recorded throughout the country:to Turku, Hämeenlinna, Kuopio, Jyväskylä and Oulu.

On Tuesday at the Vaalimaa border checkpoint, about 800 people were admitted to Finland without testing due to a traffic jam.Already on Thursday, about a hundred coronavirus infections were detected among these people.
