Valmet Automotive has signed preliminary agreements with Dutch car manufacturer Lightyear. The machines will be fully electric and will have solar panels built into them as an additional source of energy.

– We adopted a sustainable development strategy several years ago. Electric vehicles as a final product of production are fully in line with this strategy, states Pasi Rannus , responsible for production.

Lightyear startup was founded in 2016. It employs about 200 people. The startup received financial support from the EU. The prototype developed by the startup first saw the light of day two years ago. Now production, which is scheduled to begin next spring, will be in charge of the Uusikaupunki plant.

Several Mercedes models are currently produced in Uusikaupunki.
