Southeastern Europe is an unexplored region for many people. The general information that usually is published in the media reflects the situation mainly in negative terms: poor region, ex-socialist/soviet countries grinded by conflicts. Well, there are good things that happen here as well, for instance good tech things happen here. One of the most successful start-ups in the recent years is Privesc.Eu – an online platform for live broadcasting of the most important current events taking place in Romania and Republic of Moldova.
The start up went live in Chisinau, capital of Moldova, being promoted by a couple of tech geeks and enthusiastic active bloggers. It happened in 2009. Over a period of 2 years the start-up increased the number of its employees and expanded into Romania. The streaming service has shifted the way local Internet users consume news: from reading yesterday news in newspapers to realtime video with various tools for publishers and social media influencers.
More than 23 000 events broadcasted
Privesc.Eu has broadcasted more than 23 000 events, all of them available till this day on the website archives. I must say that is amazing considering it’s about 3.8k events yearly. The business model is simple: Entities pay subscriptions so that their events are broadcasted live on the Internet with a web archive available a couple of minutes right after the event. Viewers are also charged, but not all the time. Major events are broadcasted for free so that the platform could stay popular and promote socially.
Available apps on iOS and Android
Its main partners are the news publishers and journalists who can watch events online from different regions, sometimes without the need to attend. Also, they are free to embed the videos (or the widget) on their websites. Subscriptions apply also. The fees vary from 1Euro to 1000 Euro, depending on the chosen plan. Beside the web platform, users can opt in to watch a live video on their mobile devices (iOS and Android apps available) and also receive push notifications related to their interests.
“We are searching for a new format that could mean the television of the future. We don’t know how it will look, but we improve our service each month”, Vitalie Esanu told me, the engineer behind Privesc.Eu and one of the most important shareholder.
360 degree videos
The team is well grounded with the tech news and uses all the features offered by the World Wide Web. This is one of the reasons the project became popular very fast, also due to its viral tools. “Users can cut and upload videos instantly on their Facebook page. The latest great news is that we’ve brought the 360 degree camera in Moldova and we plan to shoot videos with it”, Vitalie says, mentioning the team has another surprise for the local public in terms of video quality.
When he said video quotes, I must say that was a brilliant idea. One can cut the video online and upload instantly the content on their facebook account. This way the team has created premises for instant potentially viral content.
“We have 10x times the audience of the news websites. A session is about 25 minutes compared to 3 minutes on clasic news platforms. We are uploading more than 24h of video daily. A single person can’t manage to see all the content we provide”, Vitalie concluded, proud that his platform is high on the public’s list of preferences.
